What do you actually tell people at parties that you do for a living?

Eleven years in and I still say "digital marketing" and change the subject, because the real answer takes four minutes and nobody has ever been glad they asked.

My father-in-law has believed I work "in computers" since 2017 and I have decided not to correct him.

"I run websites." Nobody has ever asked a follow-up question. It is perfect.

I say I run a small agency and then people ask if I can fix their restaurant's Instagram, so that one backfires.

I say nothing because so far I do not do it for a living, I do it for a hobby that costs money.

Told someone "ecommerce" once and spent 20 minutes on whether dropshipping is a scam. Now I say logistics.

"Software." Always software. The conversation ends immediately and everyone is happier.

I tell them advertising. It is true, it is boring, and it works.
